Sustainability

“It is a long baptism into the sea of humankind, my daughter. Better immersion than to live untouched…but how will you sustain it?” Tillie Olsen.
Anybody or any group of people can do good-things in bursts or waves or seasons….
But breaking down long-standing walls is exhausting, how do we keep on going?
How did Mother Theresa keep on doing what she was doing with the untouchables until she died? How does Heidi Baker keep on “stopping for the one” until a whole region of Mozambique was filled with hope?
How do we make our ram’s horns blow for months and years, until the walls that are moving a-barely-detected-centimenter finally crumble?
How does this teaching thing last when the last dollar buys the last large iced coffee at Dunkin Dougnuts? Then what?
Joy. Consider it all joy. We’ve got to be given unending, bubbling-up from our hearts JOY
“I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Where?”
Down in my heart to stay until the last reigning bitch finally gets it.
Really, I am for you. I am here to help. I’m not leaving. Cuss me out. Stick up your nose. Roll your eyes. I’ll still be hear calling your name, declaring who you are and  making you claim your voice until you discover in yourself a sense of worth.
Until the ram’s horns blow and the racial, economic, geographical, cultural social walls crumble.
I’m not getting paid. I’m doing this because it’s what I am born to do. I am doing this because it fills me with unmeasurable, unattainable joy. complete. to stay.

  1. Yes! STAY. God is working things together, day by day. Those kids are His kids too, they just don’t know it yet. He is on their side!

Tell me what you honestly think!
